We're talking the Keith Flake. Flake ranch is out south of Apache Junction.
We're here just east of Apache Junction or Mesa, Gold Canyon area
between Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Orange Junction. About 50 sections of state lease.
We don't own an acre and part of it's being developed. Part of it is overrun with recreationists.
The desert floor is brilliant green.
You got, how much rain did you get to get that grass cover?
There, as I recall, about three one inch rains and the spacing was pretty good.
We figured the desert is going to make like a crop. It's going to put on seed, but it comes fast. And then when it turns 100 degrees, it goes fast.
The mesquite beans, there may be some. Or when you get a year without any rain,
the trees don't put any beans?
Oh, it varies from year to year. The most, probably see the first bean in the middle of April. And then it'll be another two or three weeks before there's much of a crop. We used to keep her decals here year round and they were really bean harvesters. The beans are important. They're just not as important as they used to be when we were here year round.
Keith Flake on the Harvest USA Report.
Thanks again for listening and may God bless.
I'm Brian Hale.

Hello, this is Brian Hale. Howard Hale began the Harvest USA Report in 1997 at the suggestion of then-USCHI board member Greg Erlich. The radio program has been going strong for over 25 years and with Howard's passing, David Woodruff and I have vowed to keep this tradition alive. A great place to check out on a daily basis would be the Harvest USA Report Facebook page for these reports and more. And if you'd like an interview, leave us a note or give David a call. The number is at the top of the page.
When you get there to that page, you'll see that Frederick Harvesting has a cool video made of the 2023 season and the fact that J&A Harvesting is hiring. We've had Jesper Hansen on the phone with us. He's looking for some harvest crew, truck drivers, grain car drivers and combine operators and more, find J&A Harvesting on our Facebook page, and of course, Heil Harvesting... They're not absent, they said. They're just busy! They spent the sunny and warm afternoon recently servicing a John Deere tractor. Changed the oil, cleaned the cab, blew out the filters and greased it, running great and ready to go again.
More updates like these right on Harvest USA Report on Facebook. Also, visit harvestusareport.com for more. That's going to do it for today's report. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.
Harvest USA Report
The Harvest USA Report began in 1997 when Custom Harvester Greg Ehrlich suggested that Howard Hale would be the perfect fit for the program that interviews those involved in harvesting the grain that feeds the world. Howard's son, Brian Hale produces the program with the help of lifetime listener and contributor and now host, David Woodruff from Grassy Lake, Alberta, Canada. Give David a call, he would love to talk with you!
